Tom Hunter-Crump began his career as a Civil Engineer in 1985, but has been drawn to woodworking since college days in Springfield Missouri when he worked in a furniture building business. In 1998 he developed his own furniture business, Natural Edge Furniture, and eventually partnered with Dave Gesler to create a joint furniture business, C&G Woodworks, specializing in hand-built Arts and Crafts furniture.
Alongside his passion for woodworking, he has enjoyed many teaching opportunities including Kingsdown Special Needs School in England and Balarat Outdoor Education Program for Denver Public Schools.
Tom changed his career path to lutherie in 2006 as a member of one of Edward Dick’s guitar building classes. In January 2010 he began a full time apprenticeship with Edward in his repair shop. Today, he continues to enjoy the repair side of lutherie. He also builds tenor guitars, guitars and ukuleles under the name Emory Guitars, and builds Victor Guitars in collaboration with Edward. Tom has been Edward’s teaching assistant for the past 4 years and is now a fully qualified teacher at the Colorado School of Lutherie.
In his free time he enjoys running, biking, playing bluegrass music with his band Briar Branch, and spending time with his wife and their three children.
